In April, Celebrate! Maya Project will be holding our “Celebrating Spring and New Beginnings” weekend, with promises of music, poetry, and surprise announcements.
The 2022 Maya Angelou Birthday Luncheon
Starting off with our annual event that celebrates the life and legacy of our namesake and global poetry icon, Maya Angelou. This year’s weekend of celebration will begin Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the historical Junior League of Little Rock building.
Our keynote speaker for the event will be Airic Hughes, an entrepreneur, artist, philanthropist, and Instructor in the Department of History at the University of Arkansas. His research examines black geographies in America through the lens of federal interstate development in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Airic founded Visionairi Enterprises in 2016. Visionairi produces films, media, and events with a mission to promote and preserve Black culture through education, creativity, and social justice. Airic is the creator of the Micheaux Award and Film Labs and a recent recipient of the Mid-America Arts Alliance Artist 360 Community Activator Grant.
The club is located at 401 Scott Street, Little Rock, AR 72201 and the event will be held from 11:30am to 1:00pm.
Tickets will be on sale at our Eventbrite link here and at our website, celebratemayaproject.org. All proceeds will go to the scholarships and youth programming of the Celebrate! Maya Project with tickets being $100.00 per ticket.

The Celebrate! Maya Project Benefit Concert featuring international artist, Ruthie Foster
The benefit celebration will continue our weekend of Celebrating Spring and New Beginngingsand will begin Friday, April 22, 2022 at the CALS Ron Robinson Theatre.
The theatre is located at Library Square, 100 River Market Ave, Little Rock, AR 72201 and will be held from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
The concert will include Ruthie Foster, hailing from the tightly knit musical community of Austin, Texas, award-winning singer-songwriter Ruthie Foster has found herself duetting with Bonnie Raitt, standing on stage with the Allman Brothers at New York’s Beacon Theater, and trading verses with Susan Tedeschi. Drawing influence from legendary acts like Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, Ruthie developed a unique sound unable to be contained within a single genre, with some describing it as “some folk, some blues, some soul, some rock, some gospel”. Ruthie has been nominated for four Grammys, and has won multiple Blues Music and Austin Music Awards, plus the Grand Prix du Disque from Académie Charles-Cros in France.
The four-time Grammy nominated artist, is nominated this year alongside artists Annika Chambers, Diana Greenleaf, Janis Magness, and Miss Freddye for both the “Traditional Blues Female Artist” award and the “Koko Taylor Award.” By popular demand, the artist will perform her audience favorite, “Phenomenal Woman!”

Weekend Passes to include the luncheon and the benefit concert are available for $200.00 (to include VIP seating for luncheon and the concert, including media recognition.
